Nice excursions

Nice towns in the immediate surroundings.
MonigaOn walking-distance of our residences, with nice restaurants and weekly (antique) markets and several activities organised by the local Tourist Information Centre. Curious is the mini-town in the courtyard of the castle (citadel of refuge from the 14^th century).
Verona is located on 28 miles distance of Moniga and is famous for the opera performances in the arena and the balcony of Romeo and Julia. We can book such a performance for you.
Sirmione with a historical centre is build around the castle Rocca Scaligera on a peninsula and reachable by car or from Moniga by boat.
Desenzano with its old harbour and many inviting terraces.
Salo, a by Romans founded place with a magnificent boulevard and the most beautiful cathedral of Lake Garda with a crucifix (15th century) and a descent from the Cross (16th century) and most expressive sculptures.
The Lungolago (boulevard) of Gardone is known for its terraces.

Cultural excursions
Solferino: the battle at Solferino, by which Henri Dunant was present, was the occasion for the foundation of the Red Cross. The tower of Solferino and S.Martino are open for visitation.
Vittoriale degli Italiani in Gardone; a parc founded by Gabriele d’Annunzio, where among other things the bow of the battleship Puglia can be seen.
The 14th century Visconti-bridge over the Mincio in Borghetto at Valeggio sul Mincio.
Verona: you can not miss the opera-performance and the balcony of Romeo and Julia here!
Milan: Pay a visit to the Scala, the cathedral or to the church Santa Maria delle Grazie, where you will find the painting the Last Supper.
Venice: A visit to Venice is definitely worth while. We advise you to travel to Venice by train from Desenzano. Train schedule is obtainable at the reception of Riai.
Florence is on a 3 hour-drive from Moniga also suitable as day-excursion.
The places Vicenza, Padua and Mantova are also certain worthy to pay a visit to. Parco Sigurta: Gardens at the villa Maffei where you, because of the circumference, can easy drive through and where you are only allowed to get out in places specially destined for that.
Botanic gardens (Andre Heller) at Gardone, Museo dell’olio d’oliva or one of many other wine-houses in the immediate surroundings.

For the children
Our residences all have the disposal of at least one swimming pool (Riai even of 5 !). During the high season is an animation team present at Sereno that provides a daily programme. Sereno also has a beach-volleyball field, boules-courses and table tennis tables. As well Sereno as S.Giorgio are located directly near the lake with an own beach. At S.Giorgio and Riai are also daily activities organised, like soccer or (table-) tennis matches. At Riai is weekly a children’s disco night or a clown or magician will pay us a visit. In the summer months Riai brings out a weekly info-bulletin in which are stated all activities at the residence and in the neighbourhood. In the port of Moniga you can rent all kinds of boats; from waterbike to 7 persons motorboat (without navigation licence) and boats which do require a navigation licence.

Amusement park Gardaland is located on a 40 minutes-drive from Moniga.
Waterpark Canevaworld with kamikaze slide.
Waterpark Cavour near Valggio sul Mincio.
Zoo / Safaripark Parco natura viva near Bussolengo.
The Cableway near Malcesine is a spectaculair experience! A slowly rotating cabin of glass will bring you up to 5.775 feet high, from where you will have a magnificent view over Lake Garda.

Other activities
At Residence Riai is a regular live-music night at the bar on Mondays.
In the immediate surroundings are several shopping centres.
There is a market to visit at a different place every day.
The top of the Rocca di Manerba is reachable on foot; on a clear day you can see over the Lake till far in the north.
Bikes, mountain bikes, mopeds type Vespa Ciao etc. can be rent in town.
